Offered Without Comment (Well, Almost)
Shortly after the scoop appeared at A2Politico that the 2008 FBI crime statistics had documented a sharp “up-tick” in several kinds of crime in Ann Arbor, Police Chief Barnett Jones and Mayor Hieftje announced a neighborhood meeting to talk to residents in the areas where the daylight break-ins have been happening. To make a long story short, the place of the meeting has been changed.
Here’s is the email from the Ann Arbor Police to Neighborhood Block Captains:

Subject: Public Meeting Location
Dear Block Captains,
The Chief has decided to move the location of the public meeting to be held this Saturday September 19, 2009 at 9:00. Due to the vast interest in attending we will move the meeting from Miller Manor to The Community Center. I am sorry for any inconvenience.
Again, the meeting will take place at The Community Center at 625 N. Main St. at 9:00 on Saturday morning 19th of September.
Thank you,
Deborah
May I suggest that Mayor Hieftje would do well to leave the percentage-speak at home, and try for once not to pat himself on the back by cherry-picking crime statistics? In addition, I hope Chief Jones has a battalion of officers patrolling the Sunset neighborhood during the neighborhood meeting. ‘Cause you know what? The thief or thieves may just get the bright idea that it would be amusing to commit a daylight robbery while the Mayor and Police Chief were meeting with residents to try to put down the brewing peasant revolt.
